JULY 30 & AUGUST 1

COWBOY JUNKIES

For more than 25 years, Cowboy Junkies have remained true to their unique artistic vision and to the introspective, quiet intensity that is their musical signature, creating a critically acclaimed body of original work that has endeared them to an audience unwavering in its loyalty.

You can always identify the Cowboy Junkies by the unmistakable vocals of Margo Timmins. Her dusky, haunting voice is a focal point in the band's hypnotic blues-tinged balladry. Cowboy Junkies' music blends alt-country and folk with the languid haze of the Velvet Underground. So it was fitting that one of their first hits would be a cover of the Velvet Underground classic "Sweet Jane."

Three of the band's members, singer Margo, songwriter, producer and guitarist Michael and drummer Peter are siblings, and bassist Alan Anton has been a member since the group formed in Toronto in 1985. Few bands have lasted nearly as long with their original line-up intact, and fewer still have created as consistently satisfying a body of work. Cowboy Junkies released their newest masterwork, The Wilderness, Volume 4 of The Nomad Series in March 2012, marking the conclusion of an ambitious schedule of four releases over an 18-month period.  Junkies shows are always intimate in mood – in the Grooveyard setting this will make for a truly unforgettable evening of deep-hued music.
